One of the driving forces of E-Commerce is affiliate marketing, making way for more people to get involved with E-Commerce, in theory this allows more of the internet parties to profit from this, one way or another.

Affiliate marketing is not a costly business, however it costs a lot of time and some money is necessary for various aspects of the business to function. The time and effort devoted to establishing your affiliate marketing business, paves way to getting the required traffic coming to your website, so as to making the business a profitable one for years to come. After the initial time has been spent on your affiliate business, not much more has to be done, so long as the finer aspects of technology is put into effect as to have a fully automatic system. Whether this type of system hurts the consumer is still up for debate as there are third parties at play between the vendor and the consumer. One advantage for the vendor is the fact that they don’t really have to worry much about the traffic and advertisements as there are many affiliates driving traffic to the vendor’s website.

What about the consumer?

Given the fact that the consumer has to deal with these third parties, the real question is; does it affect the consumer in any way? My personal opinion is it really shouldn’t but the evidence often points to the consumer, often when they see an affiliate link, will most of the time go directly to the vendor’s site to purchase the product and the affiliate marketer will in this case miss a commission as a result.

Research in this area can bring up some substantial results, so then it will be up to the affiliate marketer to try and work through the situation. Some of the best practices are for the consumer benefitting more from the affiliate than to go directly to the vendor’s site. So again it is up to the affiliate marketer, to implement more benefits for the consumer. In a nutshell, the consumer should have the choice of where they’re going to purchase the products and if the benefits are great, then the consumer most often choose purchasing the product via an affiliate marketer.
